My Name is Mark McGeehan

I am a fully qualified AA Professional Golfer for the past 15 years and I have certainly learnt a lot along the way!

My approach to teaching is very much a holistic one and although I coach a technical model, I feel it is essential to teach the individual in the best way using a variety of teaching techniques, from clear explanation, demonstration, to the use of the state of the art digital video analysis system. I also use training aids where necessary to gain the right moves and feelings.

The information is delivered through very simple and yet effective communication to give you clear ideas and work programmes for your golf swing.

My teaching C.V consists of working with all levels of players, from beginners to Tournament Professionals and developing a strong Junior section. I have coached county players to success and taught at two Open Championships.

I am also a swing Tutor for the Professional Golfers Association and have recently gained a Diploma in Sports Psychology. Believe me it works!

Gavin Hutchison - Director and Teaching Professional at The Lopesan Golf Academy

I have been playing golf since the age of 9 at Chipping Norton Golf club in Oxfordshire England, were I was the Junior club Champion three times and the Youngest winner of the Mens club championship at the age of 17. I represented the club at every level and also represented the County at Junior and Senior levels. Through entertaining members and friends on and around the golf course I managed to create sufficient funds to support me playing high level Amateur golf.

Having worked in the Golf industry in Australia and New Zealand I moved to Gran Canaria in 2006 were I began working as a golf Instructor at the Lopesan Golf Academy. In 2008 I was given the title of Director of the Lopesan Golf Academy at the Lopesan Meloneras Golf Resort. Since moving to the island I have been instrumental in bringing many new up to date innovative ideas such as a purpose built golf club custom fitting system room, plus endless coaching related concepts never seen on the island before. I have attended three PGA Merchandise Shows in Orlando America and I have attended seminars with David Leadbetter, Annika Sorenstam, Hanke Haney and Lorena Ochoa dicussing technical, mental and other aspects of elite performance in golf.

My approach is a very simple model and although technical, my feeling and view points of the Lopesan Golf Academy is that we teach the individual using a variety of different teaching techniques from clear explanation, lots of Demonstration, training aids to improve feel, and also using state of the art technology such as the V1 digital video analysis system to improve the visual learning process. All information will be delivered through a very simple and effective communication program to improve your golf ability. All this will help analyze your game to identify strengths and weaknesses, so that I have packages that are available for complete beginners to low Handicap players.

My No.1 aim for all students is to make learning fun. Also to realize that not every player has to be the best golfer in the world to enjoy it. My goal is to help you find your level so that you can enjoy the game of golf.

Advices of the Pro

Tee it high, see it fly!!!

Drive the ball on a higher trajectory with less spin by teeing it up nice and high with half the ball sitting above the top of the club. Combine that with tilting your hips a little, so you have more weight on your right foot at address. Your left hip and left trouser pocket should feel a touch higher than your right. This will help with the sweeping action that you need when using a driver.

Mind Tips.

Visualization techniques can make a huge difference to the player. By increasing your vision of the shot, it is a lot easier for the body to respond to the task ahead of us. The golf swing is a mechanical movement and "yes" work should be done with a coach on the practice ground to improve the technique but when on the course you have to "see the shot" "Feel the shot" and "believe the shot". Your body will move in a fee smooth tempo and as a result, play better golf. What you see is what you get, so use your visualization carefully.

Putting techniques.

There are many differing styles that have been attempted and practiced and you will see the Tour players and professionals alike, utilizing varied grips and funny shape putters, some short some long, the bromhandle, claw grip, reverse hands and now even the fat grip and two thumb method. But what all good putters have in common, is that will focus on making a stroke that has very little hand action in, and use a pendulum style stroke, created from the rocking of the shoulders. Head very still and legs solid. Listen for the ball going in the hole! Don’t look! Especially on short putts.

Summer academy

Tune up your Game with Expert tuition from PGA Professionals. The school is designed to give you an insight into what training is required to play the golf of your dreams. Tailored to the groups needs all elements of the game will be covered, from pre swing fundamentals to in swing thoughts and then transferring the game from the practice ground to the course. Supervision and feedback will be given throughout the three day school in a fun and yet very informative delivery. The programme is sure to take you forward.
