Its very particular name comes from the old sugar alderman of the Barranco de Guadalupe, Francisco Azuaje. However, throughout history, El Azuaje de Gran Canaria has received other names.
One of its first names was Barranco de Crespo, a name that is related to its source at the summit of Valleseco, which is located at an altitude of about 1,620 m.
