The island of Fuerteventura is an ideal place to spend your vacations, both due to its mild temperature and its idyllic beaches. In this article, we will show you the best beaches in the northern part of Fuerteventura, so you can get a better idea of what you can find if you decide to visit this beautiful island.
The islet of Lobos is located in the northern part of the island, an area that can only be accessed by boat, whose journey from Fuerteventura takes about 15 minutes. From Corralejo, boats depart frequently throughout the day, which facilitates the possibility of spending a great day on this small island. It has a size of 4.5 square kilometers of wilderness where you can find some magnificent beaches.
Within this islet, we can highlight the Playa de la Concha. It is a few minutes walk from the small port of the island and the pier, so access is quite convenient. The landscape of the islet, very similar to a desert, contrasts with the crystal clear water of the area. Besides, on this beach, you can find many services that will facilitate your stay: beach bars, showers, walkways and toilets.
Among the beaches in the north of Fuerteventura, we couldn’t fail to mention Corralejo. Very close to the town of the same name, we can find paradisiacal beaches which together add up to a total of 9 kilometers, making them the largest of the entire Canary archipelago. The formation of dunes is very characteristic, as in other beaches of the Canary Islands.
As an aspect to highlight, we should mention that these beaches have a sand formed largely by the wear and tear of seashells, which gives them exfoliating qualities for the skin. This type of sand is called “jable sand”.
These beaches are ideal both for spending a day with the family and for practicing water sports such as windsurfing or kiteboarding. In the smaller coves located to the south, nudism can be practiced without any impediment.
Located just a few kilometers from the town of Corralejo, it is part of the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park. Its is not excessively large; barely 300 meters long. It is distinctive because it is surrounded by a very fine white sand.
One of the most striking things about this place is its crystal clear water. This beach has parking, making it accessible without any difficulty. Among the sports activities that you can practice in Playa del Moro, surfing is one of the most popular. The qualities of this area make this beach an ideal place for surfing, which attracts many surfers, both novice and expert, to this place. The best time to practice this sport is the summer.
It is one of the most famous beaches in the north of Fuerteventura, not only on the island, but also throughout the archipelago. Among the qualities that make this cove a special place, are its tranquility and beauty. Another outstanding feature of this small beach is its fine sand.
Near the beach there are parking lots, restaurants, and, in general, services that facilitate the access and enjoyment of this area.
This beach is located about 10 minutes drive from the town of El Cotillo. It is a totally wild cove. It owes its name to a species of shark. This beach is characterized by the rocky formations of black stone, of volcanic origin, which have formed small natural pools. These formations are known for being shallow and contain crystal clear water in which you can swim in total comfort.
Located just one kilometer from the town of El Cotillo. Despite its proximity to this town, it is fairly quiet and is usually frequented by water sports enthusiasts, such as windsurfing, kite surfing or surfing.
In winter, it is advisable to be careful with the wind, which sometimes blows with great force. The length of this beach is approximately one and a half kilometers. If you decide to go, you have to take into account that you will not find beach bars and lifeguards do not provide service all year round.
It is surrounded by cliffs, which provides a great charm to this beach. Although access is not easy, as it is a fairly secluded beach, it is highly recommended for its tranquility and the beauty of its landscapes. Its length is about 600 meters, covered by yellowish sand.
An ideal beach to go with the family, characterized by its fine white sand. Because it is located in a reef area, the waves are quite calm, so it is a very safe place. It is accessible by car, and there are usually no parking problems. Near the beach you can find restaurants and bars.
This beach is located very close to the town of Los Molinos, just 20 kilometers from the island’s capital. It is not one of the largest beaches in the north of the island; it is only 200 meters long. The most interesting feature is the variety of sand you can find, mainly white sand in summer, and black sand of volcanic origin the rest of the year.
As you have seen in this brief review of the best beaches in northern Fuerteventura, this is a privileged island to spend a few days. Besides, its hotel offer greatly facilitates the stay in this paradisiacal place.
