Unamuno’s House Museum

Being in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, means that you can follow in the footsteps of the famous writer Miguel de Unamuno. Here you will find the famous Casa Museo de Unamuno, where the playwright spent his confinement and political exile in 1924.

You can discover how he lived during that time on the island, as well as appreciate much of his work. During the visit, you will also be able to observe some architectural elements of the house that have been preserved over time.

Discover the famous lime kilns

One of the things to see in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, are the remains of the lime kilns used by the inhabitants of the island for the combustion of caliche stone that you can find in several coves.

You can see one of the lime kilns on its beaches. To understand the importance of this industry for this city, you should visit the Interpretation Center of the Lime Kilns of El Charco, to learn about the commercial history that once moved the island.

Tour the city’s Sculpture Park

This city is also known as the City of Sculptures, as you can see numerous scattered along its streets. The Sculpture Park is composed of approximately 100 sculptures that are located in different traffic circles, parks, and promenades of Puerto del Rosario.

If you walk around the Seaport you will be able to appreciate some exceptional works such as ‘Homage to the Moon’, by Rinaldo Paluzzi; ‘Overseas Baggage’, by Eduardo Úrculo, or ‘The Goats’, by Emiliano G. Hernández.

You will also have the opportunity to see the reconstruction of a whale skeleton that appeared stranded in 2006 and is part of the exhibition ‘The Path of the Cetaceans’.

Sun and bathing on the beaches of Puerto del Rosario

  • Playa Chica: this is one of the most accessible beaches of the city. Although it is small, since it has only 120 meters long, it is perfect if you are looking for a quick and pleasant swim without going far from the center of Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura.
  • Playa Las Caletillas: near the area of El Matorral, you can find this beach that is not well known by tourists. Many people come here to practice sports such as surfing.
