The beaches of Fuerteventura are world-renowned, and we believe they are a must-visit. But besides beaches, this island boasts natural landscapes and historical sites that will surprise you. Grab a pen and paper because we’re going to give you ideas to help you organise your holiday itinerary. Visiting Fuerteventura in a week might be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made, so don’t hesitate!
Fuerteventura is the fourth most densely populated of the Canary Islands. The most densely populated areas are on the coast, while smaller, charming villages are inland. The main attraction of these villages is the natural environment that surrounds them, as well as their varied gastronomy. Fuerteventura is a paradise for nature lovers. In 2009 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, thanks to the diversity of its landscapes and the richness of its ecosystems.
As you know, Fuerteventura is the jewel of the Canary Islands archipelago and in one week you’ll have time to visit beaches, volcanic formations and even charming coastal towns. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure in Fuerteventura!
Fuerteventura is home to one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world: the Corralejo Dunes. Don’t miss the chance to visit this magnificent natural formation during your stay – you will be amazed! The Corralejo Dunes stretch for over 8 kilometres parallel to the sea and are made up of sand hills of different heights, of marine origin. The peace and tranquillity you’ll experience in these dunes, some of which are up to 50 metres high, is hard to beat.
While visiting the dunes, be sure to explore the town of Corralejo: a historic fishing village with an old town worth seeing. You can also relax on its beaches and enjoy a delicious meal by the sea. This combination of natural beauty and local culture will make your visit to Corralejo unforgettable.
Just a few kilometres from Corralejo is a small natural paradise: Isla de Lobos. This island, named after the sea wolves (monk seals) that once lived there, is now a protected area that nature lovers shouldn’t miss. You can reach it by boat in just 15 minutes from Corralejo, and once there you’ll find an unspoilt environment that will stay with you forever.
We recommend hiking the trail to the Punta Martiño lighthouse, where you’ll have stunning views of the Atlantic. You can also go snorkelling at Playa de la Concha, famous for its tranquillity and marine life. Make sure you bring everything you need for the day as there are no services on the island. This trip is the perfect way to get away from it all and enjoy the natural beauty of the Canary Islands.
Hiking to the top of the Calderón Hondo volcano is one of the most fascinating activities you can do in Fuerteventura. Located near the village of Lajares, this volcano offers a well-marked and accessible trail suitable for hikers of all levels. The walk from the car park to the summit takes between 20 and 30 minutes and the panoramic views of the volcano and the sea are well worth the effort. At the top, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the crater: approximately 100 metres in diameter and 70 metres deep. From this point you can admire not only the perfect structure of the crater, but also spectacular views of the island of Lobos and Lanzarote in the distance. Remember to bring water, sunscreen and a camera to capture the beauty of this landscape.
Popcorn Beach, near Corralejo, is one of the most unique beaches you’ll find in the Canary Islands. It owes its name to the small white coral algae that, when mixed with the sand, resemble popcorn. This peculiar beach is ideal for nature lovers and photographers, offering a truly unique landscape that is worth capturing.
The beach can be reached by car from Corralejo, followed by a short walk. It’s important to remember that it is forbidden to take these “popcorn” pieces as souvenirs, as they are part of the local ecosystem. Respect the environment and don’t forget to bring water and sunscreen, as there are few facilities on the beach.
The Tostón lighthouse is a must-see during your trip to Fuerteventura. Located on the northwest coast near the village of El Cotillo, this lighthouse offers impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean and its surroundings. Built in 1897, the lighthouse is not only a point of reference for ships, but also a tourist attraction that houses a small museum about fishing and local marine life.
When you arrive at the Tostón lighthouse, take a stroll and enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty of the area. The crystal clear waters and rocky formations make this an ideal spot for photography. There are several coves and beaches nearby where you can relax and soak up the sun.
