Walk through the historic center<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The historical heritage of Tejeda is of great value, so the first stop we recommend is undoubtedly its historic center. It won\u2019t take you long, as it can be fully explored in just half an hour on foot. During your walk you will be able to admire the town hall as well as the Church of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Socorro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the main advantages you will have is that the streets are completely pedestrian. You will notice that the village has been built among mountains, creating a very beautiful postcard with its white houses of traditional architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visit the Interpretation Center of Roque Bentayga<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
This interpretation center is another must-stop when visiting the village of Tejeda. It is located about 10 minutes by car from the historic center, but the visit is well worth it. You will learn everything about the archaeological complex surrounding the Bentayga Mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Access is completely free, and the round-trip trail walk lasts less than an hour. Along the way, be sure to stop at the so-called Basket of Tejeda to get a panoramic view of Roque Bentayga. It is undoubtedly one of the most iconic photos you can take in all of Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is a structure made of metal and designed by the artist Rita Loureiro. A tribute to the hard work carried out by farmers, especially in harvesting almonds and potatoes with these traditional baskets. Next to the basket, there is also a commemorative plaque from the Tejeda Town Hall. It was created to remember all the families who died during a severe storm that took place in 1946.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gastronomy of Tejeda<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The village is built around the so-called Tejeda Basin. The territory is rich in almond trees, so the local population uses this nut to produce a wide variety of products. In this regard, we encourage you to try stuffed almonds, as well as almond shortbread cookies that you can find in the region. These are some of the typical dishes served during Christmas festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the different restaurants you can find in the village, the so-called sweets of Tejeda are also very typical. Most of them are made from almonds. One of the most historic is Dulcer\u00eda Nublo, which was founded in 1946 and is still in operation. Another of the most sought-after products is bienmesabe, also made with almonds along with sugar and egg. It is usually served as an accompaniment to other desserts such as flan or ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, another of the most common traditions in Tejeda is eating a fully artisanal chocolate palm pastry. Don\u2019t miss the opportunity!<\/p>\n\n\n\nTejeda almond sweets are one of the most typical products of the village.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Hiking routes in Tejeda<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The village of Tejeda in Gran Canaria has a huge variety of natural landscapes. Obviously, if you are a hiking enthusiast, you have many options. Do you remember the photo we suggested around the basket of Roque Bentayga? That is the starting point of one of the main routes you can find in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just 15 minutes from the basket, you will find the so-called Charco de la Paloma. An extraordinary waterfall, although depending on the time of year it will be more or less full. If you feel like walking more, you can also walk to Culata de Tejeda or Cruz de Timagada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the Barranco de Tejeda route is also an excellent example of all the flora that exists in Gran Canaria. It is a rocky and somewhat arid landscape, a perfect representation of what the Canary Islands are like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Climb Roque Nublo<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Regardless of whether it is your first time in Gran Canaria, another thing to see in Tejeda is Roque Nublo. It is one of the most representative symbols of the entire Canary archipelago and, obviously, of the island itself. It represents one of the highest points and has been a Protected Natural Area since 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its height reaches 1,813 meters above sea level. In fact, once you reach the summit, with a bit of luck you will have the opportunity to spot the island of Tenerife. Of course, you will be able to enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of all of Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Canary Islands government, Roque Nublo is one of the great rock formations in the world. This hiking route consists of 1.5 kilometers uphill and another 1.5 kilometers downhill. In this sense, unless you go with children or elderly people, it usually takes about 40 minutes to go up and another 20 minutes to go down.<\/p>\n\n\n\nRoque Nublo is one of the most important natural landmarks in Gran Canaria.<\/strong><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
See the Cruz de Tejeda<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If you are looking for something to do in Tejeda, the Cruz de Tejeda is undoubtedly another essential stop that you should include in your itinerary. Although it is a passage point for many cyclists and hikers, we recommend stopping to admire the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are usually mules or donkeys, and it is a great opportunity for children to enjoy a memorable experience. In addition, you will be able to see and buy many local products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being a village located at 1,000 meters above sea level, like Tejeda, makes it a perfect place for viewpoints. If you want to enjoy panoramic views of the island of Gran Canaria, in the surroundings you will find a wide variety of options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
