However, Canarian beer has managed in recent years to earn a place among the most recognised Canarian drinks.

We have prepared a list of the best Canarian beers that you should not miss if you are visiting the archipelago. Would you like to enjoy them? We tell you everything you need to know!

Canarian beer: 6 different flavours

The production of Canarian beer involves a special fermentation process that gives this popular drink unique nuances. Its development has grown significantly in recent years, gaining recognition not only nationally but also internationally.

Its production is entirely artisanal, carefully preserving the quality and flavour of the beer. Across the archipelago, there are more than 30 types of Canarian craft beers. Each one has an extraordinary flavour, which is why we have selected 6 of the best beers from the Canary Islands:

1. Isla Verde

This Canarian beer comes from the town of Tijarafe, on the island of La Palma. It has a wide variety of unique flavours, but we would like to highlight La Danza del Diablo, which was created as a tribute to the traditional festivities of Tijarafe. What makes it so unique?

La Danza del Diablo contains a blend of 4 different varieties of malt, such as chocolate and caramel malt, which you probably would not think of combining at first, but together they create a great flavour.

Its Canarian craft beers are a different and delicious product to taste. They offer different types, and you will surely enjoy trying them if you visit the Canary Islands:

Isla Verde

Indiana

Julieta Negra

Julieta Rubia

La Graja Piripi

La Graja IPA

Pícara

Craft beers from the Canary Islands stand out for their unique flavours and their production using local products.

2. Jaira

The Canarian beer Jaira comes from Agüimes, in Gran Canaria. Its name refers to the goats that are raised close to their owners. This project was started by a family dedicated to goat farming, who wanted to bring special flavours to their craft beers. Some of the most recognised varieties are:

Buchito

Carnaval

Chiflada de Trigo

Indian Pale Ale

Maui

Seaclouds

We would like to highlight Chiflada de Trigo, made with German wheat and blended with aromatic notes of clove and banana. This may seem like a strange combination at first, but it is one of the most outstanding types of Canarian beer.

3. Kuf Kuf

Kuf Kuf is the first Canarian beer from the island of El Hierro. In the Canary Islands, there is a plant called Barrillera or Cofe Cofe, which was used to make a kind of flour or gofio. This beer from the Canary Islands takes its name from the pre-Hispanic indigenous people, who called the plant Kuf Kuf.

The words light, dark and blonde define its three emblematic flavours: La Pale Ale, Sabores Tostados and Doña Pasión. So, if you love original flavours, they will not disappoint you, as they have the perfect balance of hops, achieving a well-rounded blend.

4. Malpeis

Malpeis produces its Canarian craft beers in Lanzarote. Its different types arose from experiments by its owners, and its name comes from Malpaís, a geographical landform caused by the presence of eroded volcanic rocks.

Its three beer varieties take their names from the sands and soils of Lanzarote:

Bermeja

Jable

Rofe

The Canarian beer Jable is named after white sand. It is a golden variety, very light on the palate, with citrus and thyme notes. Meanwhile, Bermeja has a reddish amber tone, plenty of foam and a strong hop aroma combined with sweet peach aromas.

Finally, Rofe owes its name to the colour of volcanic ash, with a tone similar to coffee and caramel notes.

Canarian craft beer has gained popularity in recent years thanks to its quality and variety of flavours.

5. Nao

Another reference from the island of Lanzarote is the Canarian beer Nao, which combines the unique flavours of hops and malt rooted in the territory of the archipelago. One element worth highlighting is that Nao is part of the Canarian Association of Independent Craft Breweries (ACCAI).

We highlight Maresía among its varieties, because it combines the strong notes of hops and malt with a unique grape variety: volcanic Malvasía.

Other notable Nao beers include:

Black Patrón

Goza

Nao Gloria

Nao Lanzarote

6. Tierra de Perros

Tierra de Perros is a typical beer from Tenerife, specifically from the town of Los Realejos. The creators of this beer state that their main goal is to offer quality products while respecting the environment and applying ecological measures.

For this reason, they take great care of every detail in their diverse production. These are their main beers:

Pale Ale

Saison

Summer Ale

Tizziri Rosadita

Tizziri Rubita

Highlights of canarian beer

Have you chosen your favourite yet? As you have seen, all these Canarian beers are made artisanally, combining innovative ingredients with those typical of this popular drink.

Thanks to the care and dedication of producers in the Canary Islands, the craft beers of the archipelago have recently managed to position themselves as a benchmark in the islands’ market.

If you are planning to visit the Canary Islands to try their diversity of flavours and discover the spectacular landscapes and beaches found throughout the territory, at the Lopesan Group hotels we will be waiting to offer you the best accommodation service.
