Its name is Anfi del Mar, created as a place to unwind, with white sand brought over from the Caribbean, calm waters and a setting designed for pure relaxation.

Although man-made, the way it blends with the landscape and the quality of its facilities have made it one of the most popular beaches in the south. Here you can do much more than swim or sunbathe – you can stroll along the shore, head out on the water or simply enjoy the sunset over the ocean.

From the Bahamas to Gran Canaria: the story behind Anfi del Mar

Anfi del Mar belongs to the municipality of Mogán, one of the sunniest spots on Gran Canaria. In the early 1990s, a Norwegian entrepreneur envisioned this unique place: an artificial beach that combined the atmosphere of the Caribbean with the tranquillity of the Atlantic. To make it happen, more than 500 tonnes of white sand were imported from the Bahamas, standing out against the intense blue of the sea.

Since then, Anfi del Mar has become one of the most visited places in the south of the island. Its waters are calm, with hardly any waves, making it perfect for families, couples or anyone in search of a moment of peace.

The climate adds to its appeal: the south of Gran Canaria enjoys mild temperatures all year round, so whether you visit in January or August, it’s always the right season to enjoy this beach.

White sand, gentle waters and stable weather: that’s Anfi del Mar, a man-made beach created in the 1990s in the south of Gran Canaria.

What to see at Anfi del Mar: beaches, islets and seafront walks

Though not a large area, Anfi del Mar brings together several places worth exploring slowly: two distinct beaches, a man-made islet and a series of coastal promenades, all designed for unhurried enjoyment.

Balito beach

At one end of the complex lies Balito beach, a small cove of gravel and pebbles. It is quieter and far less busy, with no hire facilities or showers, making it a peaceful spot to wander, bask in the sun or sit in silence by the water. About 200 metres long, it preserves a more natural character.

La Verga beach

This is the best-known and most photographed: a white-sand beach with calm waters, framed by palm trees, sunbeds and parasols. Here you’ll find all the facilities – toilets, bars, restaurants, equipment hire and easy access to the sea. Just 180 metres long, it is the lively hub of “Anfi beach”.

The island of Anfi

Just opposite the main beach lies the Island of Anfi, a small heart-shaped islet reached on foot. Inside are landscaped gardens, pathways for strolling and shaded areas to rest. Tourist boats also depart from here, connecting with Puerto Rico, Arguineguín and Mogán, some with glass-bottom decks for underwater views.

The Island of Anfi, a heart-shaped islet where tourist boats depart for other parts of southern Gran Canaria.

What to do at Anfi del Mar: activities for every taste

Beyond sunbathing and swimming, Anfi del Mar offers a wide range of ways to enjoy its setting. The area is prepared so that adults and children alike can have fun in the water, try sports or simply relax with views of the ocean.

Watersports at Anfi del Mar

Thanks to its sheltered waters, the beach is perfect for watersports throughout the year. Popular choices include jet skis (often advertised locally as “jetski in Anfi del Mar”), paddleboarding, waterskiing, as well as classic rides such as bananas and the crazy sofa.

Parasailing is also a highlight. Gliding above the coast with sweeping views of Mogán and Arguineguín is a straightforward yet spectacular experience.

Diving and snorkelling in crystal-clear waters

Gran Canaria boasts one of the richest marine ecosystems in the Canary Islands. The calm waters of Anfi del Mar are perfect for diving and snorkelling, especially for beginners. Visibility is usually excellent and, with a bit of luck, you might spot fish, sea urchins or even the occasional ray.

Boat trips and evenings by the sea

From Anfi del Mar’s marina you can join boat trips with different routes, some with glass-bottomed decks to admire the seabed without getting wet. You can also hire private boats or join organised excursions with a guide and food on board.

To end the day, there’s nothing quite like staying on the beach to watch the sun go down. Thanks to its orientation and low-lying coastline, Anfi del Mar offers particularly beautiful sunsets – ideal for switching off and, if you enjoy photography, capturing a unique side of the island.

Lopesan at Anfi del Mar: your choice of hotels near the beach

The south of Gran Canaria is one of the island’s most established holiday destinations.
