Let the adventure begin!

Where is Fuerteventura?

Fuerteventura is a Spanish island, which is located just 100 km off the northwest coast of Africa and is surrounded by the vast Atlantic Ocean. This gives Fuerteventura an African atmosphere with a mixture of European influence, making it one of the most popular tourist spots for travellers.

Together with Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura is one of the islands that receives most visitors in the Canary Islands and, also, where you can enjoy our accommodations to visit its heavenly beaches with the maximum comfort.

What to visit in Fuerteventura?

Apart from making water sports or sunbathing on the island’s paradisiacal beaches, there are also many interesting places where you will have several alternatives to enjoy the unique charms of the island.

That said, below we recommend some places to visit in Fuerteventura to make the most of your holiday:

1. Discover the touristic centre of Corralejo

At the north of the island is located the locality of Corralejo, where you can find the Natural Park of Corralejo. It has incredible dunes made of white sand and cristaline water.

In the old town of Corralejo you will find small stalls and restaurants, where you can taste the traditional local dishes. And just a few metres away you can see the Islet of Lobos, where a great variety of animal species live together. You can reach this islet by ferry.

2. Enjoy yourself surrounded by popcorn at Popcorn Beach

A different environment to visit in Fuerteventura is the famous Popcorn Beach, where you can swim and spend your day surrounded by “popcorn”. Yes, popcorn! The peculiarity of this natural environment lies in the series of stone formations similar to popcorn.

Just ten minutes from Corralejo and the village of Majanicho you will find the Popcorn Beach. You won’t be able to take any of these peculiarly shaped stones with you, as they are protected, but you will be able to take photos and enjoy a fun day on the island.

3. Visit the oldest village: Betancuria

If we are talking about beautiful places, in the west of Fuerteventura you can’t miss the old capital of the island until 1834, Betancuria. This was the first town in all the Canary Islands, founded in 1404 by the conqueror Jean de Béthencourt.

Betancuria undoubtedly represents an important part of the history and cultural heritage of Fuerteventura, which has one of the most beautiful historical centres of the whole island. Currently, only 800 inhabitants live here.

During your tour you can discover emblematic places to visit such as the Church of Santa María, the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, the Betancuria Rural Park, Las Peñitas and the viewpoints of Guise and Ayose.

4. Make a stop at the Guise and Ayose viewpoint

On the FV-30 road that leads to the village of Betancuria, continuing on to Morro Velosa you will find the Guise y Ayose viewpoint, located in the so-called Corrales de Guise, between the Santa Inés Valley and the Betancuria Rural Park. It has become one of the obligatory stops for tourists who venture out to see the island.

You will be able to see one of the most beautiful views of the entire north of the island, but you will also have the opportunity to have your photo taken with the statues of the ancient kings of Jandía and Maxorata, which are more than 4 metres high. This geographical point has become a venue for various cultural and political events on the island.

5. Hiking in the “Barranco de las Peñitas”

If you are a nature lover, in the heart of Betancuria is located one of the most visited and photographed trails in Fuerteventura, the “Barranco de Las Peñitas”.

A gorge of vertical slopes that shelters the Ermita de Malpaso, the Arco de Las Peñitas (a natural enclave) and a native Canary Island palm grove. This route can be a somewhat demanding trail to walk, due to its length. Do you dare to do it?

Another place to visit in Fuerteventura is undoubtedly the magical Tindaya Mountain, which is located in the northwest of the island. 12. Explore Caleta de Fuste

If you want to swim in another natural pool, we recommend a stop at Caleta de Fuste, also known as the Castle, due to the military fortification located on the site.
