From January to March
Carnival, the most important celebration on the islands, marks the beginning of the year.
Fuerteventura Carnival
One of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, this tradition, famous for its colourful parades, costume shows and live music, floods the streets of all the islands. The carnival season takes place between February and March and is celebrated not only in the capital, Puerto del Rosario, but also in the different municipalities.
The most famous places for this celebration are Tuineje, Antigua, Betancuria, Pájara and Puerto del Rosario. In the island’s capital, the festival lasts up to 10 days. Incredible, isn’t it?
Our Lady of Candelaria
Everyone wants to pay homage to Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, the patron saint of the islands, on 2 February in La Oliva. Tenerife leads the tradition with this virgin, but curiously, in this town on the island of Majorca, you can find a carving of La Morenita, but much older. On this day there are open-air dances, fiestas and, of course, the procession.
April to June
It’s the second quarter of the year. Below you can see the festivities from April to June.
Our Lady of Regla
The town of Pájara celebrates its Nuestra Señora de Regla fiestas on 2 June. There are many activities for all ages. The most famous, however, is the pilgrimage (romería) that starts from the hermitage that houses the image of the Virgin. Everyone dresses in traditional costume and gets on the floats.
Fiesta del Charco
The Fiesta del Charco is a traditional and popular event in Fuerteventura. This neighbourhood, which is part of Puerto del Rosario, celebrates its patron saint, the Virgen del Mar, on the 1st of June. There are lots of dances, activities and fun.
Tanquito Romería
This romería in the municipality of Pájara takes place in June. It is one of the most popular on the island and one of the busiest. Early in the morning, pilgrims set off from Cardón to the mountain to pay homage to the Virgin of El Tanquito.
From July to September
It’s time for the hottest and most touristy months of the year. Read on to find out about the festivals in Fuerteventura from July to September.
Day of San Buenaventura
On 14 July, the municipality of Betancuria celebrates its patron saint. The people of Betancuria have the honour of being able to claim that this is the oldest fiesta on the island, since it has been celebrated since 1456. The most important part of the day is the procession.
The festival of the Virgen del Carmen
The fiestas in Corralejo and Morro Jable on 16 July in honour of the Virgen del Carmen are not to be missed if you are on the island during this month. In the latter, you can see all the boats and barges (falúas) go out to accompany the Virgin of the Sea on her walk. Everyone ends up eating near the beach and enjoying the weather at this time of year.
Our Lady of Antigua
On 8 September, the town of Antigua dresses up to pay homage to its patron saint, the Señora de Antigua. There are usually many musical events and activities for all ages.
Festivities of La Peña
The third Saturday in September is one of the most important celebrations of the year for Majoreros. This is the pilgrimage of La Peña, which began in the 19th century and is still one of the most popular. You can see traditional costumes and listen to typical island music.
From October to December

Festival of the Battle of Tamasite
On 13 October you can enjoy a fiesta declared of National Tourist Interest. It is a re-enactment of this battle in which the people of Tuineje dress up in traditional costumes and face the English corsairs with their majorero bravery. One of the best fiestas you can attend.
