A visit to Mogán is a unique experience for the traveller, who will enjoy a spectacular symbiosis between the sea and the mountains. A destination of contrasts and beautiful traditions, Mogán is renowned for having one of the best climates in Europe. Its history, as varied and interesting as its geography, tells us about the aboriginal settlements in its ravines and how it developed until it became an independent municipality in the 19th century.
It also tells us how Mogán’s economy was initially based on agriculture and fishing, although over time it became richer with the integration of tourism. Today, this magnificent town has become a first-rate tourist destination, which still retains the charm of its traditions and the heritage of its ancestors.
A tour of the marvellous Puerto de Mogán
Visitors to Puerto de Mogán are greeted by a fishing village characterised by white houses with colourful stripes, bougainvillaea climbing the walls and bridges over saltwater canals. These canals, which picturesquely connect the marina to the fishing area, are inspired by the design of Venice and have earned Puerto de Mogán the nickname “The Little Venice of the Canary Islands”. As well as strolling along the canals and admiring the local architecture, there is plenty to do in Puerto de Mogán. Watch the beautiful boats prepare for their daily work at sea as they share space with luxury yachts. Watch the sunset: At the end of the day, before the sun dips below the horizon, come to the ‘secret point’ and enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets on the island.

Marvel at its natural beauty
Beyond the beautiful narrow streets of Puerto de Mogán lies the municipality of Mogán, the second largest in Gran Canaria. It has 38% of its territory within three protected natural spaces: the Inagua Nature Reserve, the Nublo Rural Park and the Tauro Natural Monument. The Macizo del Suroeste, an imposing geological formation that stretches across the municipality, is one of the natural wonders of Gran Canaria and a great opportunity to explore areas of endemic tabaibales and other unique ecosystems.
The Barranco de Veneguera ravine is another outstanding place to visit. Starting at Los Azulejos, known for the different colours of its rock formations (blue, red and yellow), this gorge will surprise you with its visual spectacle. Don’t miss the Cañada de los Gatos in the Barranco de Mogán ravine, an archaeological site declared of Cultural Interest.
Church of San Antonio de Padua
Another of the must-sees in Mogán, Gran Canaria, is its most outstanding historical monument: the church. Its interior features a coffered ceiling of unquestionable beauty, made of carved wood, and the painting of Las Ánimas.
Built in the 19th century, this church was a turning point, as it led to the emancipation of the parish of Mogán from Tejeda, becoming the origin and heart of the municipality. Surrounded by buildings that reflect the traditional architecture of the area, the church is located in a setting that offers breathtaking panoramic views.
Arguineguín, a surprising fishing village
Located in a privileged corner of Gran Canaria, Arguineguín is the most outstanding village of Mogán, a place where the past comes alive with its traditional fishing boats. These colourfully decorated boats return to the port every day after a day’s fishing.
Don’t miss Las Marañuelas beach, from where you can see Tenerife silhouetted against the horizon on a clear day. Also not to be missed are the sunsets at Arguineguín, a true spectacle for the senses.
Discover its beaches
The beaches of Mogán are another of the undisputed attractions of this paradise. The main beach of Mogán, with its golden sand and calm waters, is a fantastic place to enjoy with the family. On the other hand, Playa de la Verga, also known as Anfi del Mar, is a curiosity. It is an artificial beach with white sand imported directly from the Bahamas. You will feel like you are in the Caribbean! Taurito beach is unique in that it is volcanic in nature. As for Puerto Rico, this beach is famous for its wide range of entertainment and gastronomy, perfect for spending the whole day with family or friends. Finally, Playa de Amadores, a very popular beach in high season, where you can enjoy a wide variety of restaurants.

Street markets of Mogán and Arguineguín
Another attraction in the town of Mogán is its famous street market. Held every Friday, it is made up of more than 500 stalls where the flavours and cultures of the island come together. You can buy accessories, decorations, shoes and clothes. This traditional market brings together people from all over the island to discover its products. If you go to Mogán, don’t miss this experience.
You can also visit the street market in Arguineguín, where you can find fresh fruit and vegetables, souvenirs, clothes, bags, shoes and curiosities of all kinds.
The Mogán viewpoint In the Playa de Mogán area, there is a viewpoint with spectacular views of the port and the beach. To get to this viewpoint you have to climb up steep streets. The effort is rewarded with a view of the monument dedicated to the moray eel and the child, at the foot of the viewpoint. The square is named after Juan Hernández Moreno, one of the most respected and popular councillors in Mogán.
