What to do in Fuerteventura in 5 days?

Here are our recommendations for what to do in Fuerteventura in 5 days. We have prepared a list of destinations that you should not miss when you visit the island. Let’s go!

1. North route of Fuerteventura

In the north of the island is one of Fuerteventura’s main tourist centres, Corralejo, where in just one day you can visit several must-sees, such as its amazing dunes, the largest sandy area in the Canary Islands. These are 2,600 hectares of pure desert, perfect for adventure lovers.

On the other hand, if you want to have a completely different time in Corralejo, go to Acua Water Park, a water park with high slides, simple pools and waves designed for the whole family.

End your day with a visit to Plaza Patricio Calero, the “heart of Corralejo”, where much of the social and cultural life of the town takes place. It is the perfect place to stroll around and find a good restaurant or bar where you can taste the best of Fuerteventura’s typical cuisine.

2. Visit Lobos Island and El Cotillo

Lobos Island stands out for its crystal-clear waters and unique volcanic landscapes.

After visiting the northern part of Fuerteventura, excursions depart from the town of Corralejo to the island of Lobos, where you can enjoy a day of relaxation or adventure, depending on what you are looking for on your trip.

Ferries depart every half hour from the port of Corralejo to this idyllic island, as the journey takes just 15 minutes. As you disembark, you’ll be greeted by waters so crystal clear they appear unreal to the naked eye.

Once on Isla de Lobos, you can visit the island’s beaches, such as the peaceful Playa de la Concha. The island also offers several trails that take you through volcanic landscapes, the most famous being the hike to the top of the Caldera de La Montaña volcano, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the island and its surroundings.

The spectacular Isla de Lobos is certainly not to be missed in this guide on what to see in Fuerteventura in 5 days. However, in order to preserve the landscape and the environment, tourists are only allowed on the island for 4 hours, so on your return from Corralejo you can head for another charming destination: El Cotillo.

The coastal village of El Cotillo is another beautiful town in the municipality of La Oliva. This is the ideal place to sit down and eat a good fresh fish with wrinkled potatoes after walking through its picturesque streets and arriving at its lighthouse, one of the magical spots where you can enjoy an incredible sunset.

As we continue our tour of Fuerteventura, we will leave behind the paradisiacal beaches and enter one of the most interesting places on the island: Betancuria, a historic town with traditional architecture.

The historic quarter of Betancuria preserves the traditional Canarian architecture and takes you back to the island’s past with its streets and historic buildings. An example of how Fuerteventura is not only known for its majestic natural spaces, but also for its rich history.

Its main attraction is the church of Santa María, whose interior and exterior combine Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance and Mudejar elements. The monastery of San Buenaventura and the Archaeological Museum are other must-sees in Betancuria.

4. In the south of Fuerteventura

In the south of Fuerteventura you will find some of the best beaches on the island, including Cofete Beach, located in the stunning Jandía Nature Reserve.

It is 13.7 kilometres long and 50 metres wide, with golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Close to the beach you can also learn about some of the island’s history at the Aldea de Cofete, the cemetery and the manor house or Villa Winter.

The adventure doesn’t end here, because in about 40 minutes by car you can reach the beautiful town of Morro Jable, a tourist reference point for its beaches and emblematic sites such as the Saladar de Jandía (protected wetland), the Morro Jable lighthouse at Punta del Matorral or the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, among others.

5. Explore the west side of Fuerteventura

On our 5 day tour of Fuerteventura we could not miss the west side of the island. On this side you will find several charming villages that reflect the authenticity of island life.

Pájara is a small village that offers an experience rich in culture, history and natural beauty. With its Nuestra Señora de la Regla church, the traditional architecture of its streets, the hiking trails that start in the area and the local gastronomy, we are sure you will fall in love with it.

You can also include the picturesque village of Tefía in your Fuerteventura guide.  Although less well known than some of the island’s more popular tourist destinations, Tefía offers an authentic and tranquil experience for those wishing to explore local life and enjoy the natural beauty of Fuerteventura.

Finally, don’t miss the charming seaside village of Ajuy on this side of the island. The town is famous for its impressive cliffs and black volcanic sand beaches. Ajuy is also the starting point for scenic walks along the coast and cliffs, and the Ajuy Cave Route is not to be missed. There is a Visitor Centre in the village where you can learn more about the geology, history and culture of the area.

Best time to visit Fuerteventura

If you are looking for an answer to when the best time to visit Fuerteventura is, the answer is “all year round”! Fuerteventura’s subtropical climate makes it a pleasant destination all year round.

If you prefer milder temperatures and fewer tourists, spring and autumn are probably the best times to visit. If you like a warmer climate and want to enjoy the beaches and water activities, summer may be ideal. Winter offers an escape from the cold elsewhere and still allows you to enjoy most outdoor activities.
