8 Waterfalls in Gran Canaria That Will Amaze You

If you choose to travel from October to March, the rainiest season, you will have the chance to admire impressive views of the waterfalls in Gran Canaria formed in the riverbeds of the ravines. In this list, we show you some of the places most visited by tourists who love hiking and contemplating nature.

El Charco Azul

El Charco Azul is one of the few waterfalls in Gran Canaria that has water all year round, making it possible to visit regardless of the time of year you choose to travel to the island. This natural corner is located near the village of El Risco, in the municipality of Agaete, and you can get there from Maspalomas in approximately 2 hours by car.

There you can admire the waterfall flowing into the streambed, which carries the water through the ravine. Its water level may vary depending on the rainfall of the season, although you will always be able to see water moving through the area.

Barranco de los Cernícalos

If you enjoy the combination of flora and fauna together with the sight of a beautiful waterfall in Gran Canaria, visit Barranco de los Cernícalos and admire the variety of native plants and animals that live in the area.

This ravine is located in Telde and is suitable for hiking. You just need to be careful with the terrain, as the trails may include slippery rocks. We recommend wearing appropriate footwear and not forgetting to bring water.

Barranco de Azuaje

Barranco de Azuaje is located between the municipalities of Firgas and Moya, where you can admire a beautiful watercourse formed among the different waterfalls in the area. While enjoying its lush flora, you can also go hiking and explore the beautiful surroundings of this unique natural landscape.

Part of the streambed of Barranco de Azuaje lies within the area covered by Doramas Natural Park, formerly known as “Selva Doramas” in honour of the warrior of the aboriginal peoples of the Canary Islands. It is home to one of the last remaining examples of laurel forest preserved on the island of Gran Canaria.

Cascada de Soria

Between the municipalities of Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana lies Cascada de Soria, also known as Cascada Bonita de Soria. It is one of the waterfalls in Gran Canaria that produces the greatest flow during the rainy season.

When rainfall causes the Presa de las Niñas reservoir to overflow, a spectacular waterfall is formed, whose flow eventually reaches the Soria reservoir.

Barranco del Negro

During the rainy season, the accumulation of water from the summits and mid-altitude areas causes another of Gran Canaria’s waterfalls to form in Barranco del Negro, known for its unique character. This place is well known among those who enjoy canyoning, thanks to the incredible natural beauty of its cliffs and other rock formations. It is ideal for disconnecting from the noise and busy pace of city life.

This ravine is located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, begins near the village of Tunte and flows down towards Maspalomas. There you can pass through a kind of natural maze formed by rocks and vertical trails, as well as waterfalls and green areas that retain water during dry periods.

Parque Doramas

In Parque Doramas, you can enjoy artificial waterfalls that decorate the space, together with fountains, statues and various examples of plants and animals. It is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and represents an oasis in the heart of the capital

Palmitos Park

Finally, there is Palmitos Park, a park located in Maspalomas with beautiful exotic plants, recreational activities and areas for enjoying the natural landscape. Among its attractions are the impressive waterfalls of the Botanical Garden, which have a unique charm for visitors.

In addition, you can observe the animals found there, relax among beautiful gardens with ponds, take part in shows for all audiences and visit the freshwater and saltwater aquarium to admire different species of marine fauna.
