Playa La Caleta is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. Is it on your radar for your next holidays? In this post we’ll tell you all about it so that you can find out why it’s such a great place to visit.

Where is Playa La Caleta?

This beach is located in La Caleta, in the province of Santo Domingo, in the municipality of Boca Chica. The name is due to the fact that its origins date back to a small cove (“Boca Chica” in English literally means “small mouth”).

It is very close to the capital, Santo Domingo, and to other municipalities such as San Antonio de Guerra.

How to get to Playa Caleta

Given its proximity to Santo Domingo, it is very easy to get to La Caleta, and specifically to Playa Caleta.

From the capital, you can go by bus, which will only take about an hour. There are also other much faster options, such as going by taxi or a car with a driver, or you can rent a car to get there on your own. If you choose any of these last options, instead of an hour it will only take fifteen minutes.

If you want to come here from other places, such as Punta Cana, it’s also a possibility. To do so, if you want to go by bus it will take you two and a half hours. If you opt for a taxi, a car with a driver or a car rental, it will take only two hours.

What to do in Playa La Caleta

Playa La Caleta is a place where residents of Santo Domingo and other nearby towns go to cool off on days when the heat is more intense. It is a small beach with areas of sand, trees and bushes. As soon as you arrive, you’ll see that the beach has a very natural appearance, in which the vegetation has taken over part of the area.

However, when you decide to go into the ocean, you’ll have to avoid a small rocky area. If you want to take a dip but you’re afraid of hurting yourself, you can wear a pair of water shoes like jelly sandals to make it easier for you.

In the sandy area there are several restaurants of different types, with a good atmosphere either for lunch or dinner, especially during the weekends. Here you can try fried fish with plantains, yaniqueque or the famous “Dominican flag” dish, along with a good cold beer or rum, right by the sea.
