TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología is one of the most significant cultural attractions in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Its exhibits offer visitors the opportunity to engage with mathematics, physics and biology in a unique learning environment. It is an ideal destination for families and individuals seeking a unique learning experience.

The history of Elder Museum

The Elder Museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has a unique history. It is situated in the city centre, in the Santa Catalina park, in close proximity to the port area.

The building was owned and named after a British shipping company with a presence on the island since 1884, Elder Dempster Lines Ltd. This late 19th century structure had fallen into disuse, so a new lease of life was sought. With over 6800 square metres, it was the ideal place to create a space for citizenship. This led to the creation of this project, which saw the light of day in December 1999.

The museum comprises four floors and 4,600 metres of interactive exhibition space. Its motto is “It’s forbidden not to touch”. It aims to communicate different advances and knowledge of scientific disciplines through its different exhibitions and room

The first floor is divided into two distinct areas. On the one hand, we find Gaia, which is dedicated to biology. This area includes a science workshop and a wealth of information about the cetaceans that sail the coasts of the Canary Islands. On the other hand, we have Xploratorium, which is dedicated to space and astronomy. This area includes a planetarium.

In order to offer variety and change, the first floor is dedicated to the many temporary exhibitions hosted by the museum. These exhibitions cover various themes such as history and art, but always with a nod to the general concept of the place.

Finally, the third floor is dedicated to people, specifically to different illustrious scientists over time, thanks to an interactive mural. To top it all off, you will find the 3D cinema where you can discover the natural wonders of the ocean and space.

The floors of this building offer a multitude of experiences, with the following being particularly noteworthy:
