Vermouth is a drink that was already produced in Ancient Egypt, Classical Greece, and the Roman Empire. What distinguishes each vermouth is the wine and, above all, the composition of aromatic herbs and other flavorings used in its production. This makes it unique and characteristic of each place. Would you dare to try a vermouth with flavors specific to the Canary Islands? You can always take a bottle home as a gift or souvenir, but we assure you that it tastes best on our islands. It will refresh you wonderfully!
Different vermouths made in the Canary Islands
Did you know that unique vermouths are produced in the Canary Islands? Each one has the characteristic flavor of the islands, as they are made with natural local ingredients. We will give you a brief description of the different vermouth brands of the Canary archipelago. Which one would you like to try?
Lolito from Gran Canaria
Named in honor of the family dog, this completely artisanal vermouth is flavored with eight botanicals, among which mugwort and citrus peels from Mogán stand out. You will find it made with both red and white wine. They do not use Canary Island wine, as its production is limited and more suitable for producing the characteristic Atlantic and volcanic wines.
Primo from Lanzarote
If you want to taste a vermouth made with Canary Island volcanic Malvasía wine, this is the one for you. This wine comes from Lanzarote, and due to its originality and quality, we could not overlook it. It is made with Malvasía Volcánica grape varieties native to the island. To flavor it, native plants have also been used, such as wormwood, savory, or citrus peel from the Canary Islands. It is available in white or red versions, the latter with a reddish color thanks to rhubarb and cinchona, among others.
Brumas de Ayosa from Tenerife
Once again, we move to a neighboring island to recommend a white vermouth, as it is made with wine from the regional winery of Valle de Güímar, Tenerife, flavored with the native plant Canary incense (Artemisa canariensis), known in Canarian popular culture for its digestive properties, among others.
El 18 from Tenerife
This is the vermouth created by and for Canarians, as it was conceived by bartender Abel López and Bodegas el Lomo, a family winery located in Tegueste, Tenerife. This vermouth is entirely artisanal and was born as a result of Abel López trying countless vermouth recipes until finding the perfect one, which has a certain citrus touch without the need to add lemon or orange peel. In addition, the artisans decided that the vermouth would be red, as it is the one most commonly consumed by Canarians.

Where to have a good vermouth in Gran Canaria
Now you know the best vermouth brands from Gran Canaria and the rest of the islands. But where can you drink it? Although there are many more places in Gran Canaria to enjoy vermouth, these are the ones with the most complete vermouth menus and, in addition, good tapas and atmosphere.
Dorotea, Las Palmas
We recommend this place because it is a traditional Canarian establishment, as it is located right in the center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, making it very convenient. They prepare both meals and tapas with excellent presentation, combining traditional and innovative dishes so you can pair your vermouth however you prefer. In addition, it has a very lively atmosphere and a personal service that will make you feel at home.
Valentina LPA, Las Palmas
But if you are looking for a more specialized place, go to the vermouth bar, brewery, and wine bar Valentina. It is also located in the tourist center of Las Palmas, and you will find excellent portions or tapas to enjoy with your drink; such as beans, Iberian cold cuts, foie with jam, etc. And if someone in your group does not like vermouth as much, they have a complete menu of beers, wines, and also cocktails with a unique signature.
It is a bar specialized in tapas, an excellent idea for a light lunch or dinner when it is hot, while you refresh yourself with a Canarian vermouth.
Maripili, Las Palmas
If you want to have vermouth and a portion in a very photogenic place, Maripili is your place. With very “Instagram-worthy” dishes, you will love sharing photos while enjoying your vermouth. They offer brunch menus, very appealing, with dishes at an affordable price, a great idea to enjoy and accompany a vermouth.
Manuela Jimena, Las Palmas
Do you prefer to drink your vermouth in a place with a classic Madrid-style atmosphere? This bar recreates it perfectly with its design and also its aperitif drinks, among which vermouth stands out, although you will also find rebujito, Negroni, Aperol Spritz, cava, etc. For tapas, this place focuses on Spanish cuisine: scallops, Russian salad, pork cracklings, patatas bravas, Iberian croquettes… It is an excellent alternative to contrast with the Canarian vermouths and dishes of the other places we recommend.
La Bikina, Las Canteras
La Bikina opts for a fusion of Mexican, Thai cuisine and classic dishes such as potatoes or burgers. As experts in cocktails and vermouth, they also offer other regional Canary wines so that practically everyone can find an option when choosing their favorite drink. This “cantina” is located right on the Las Canteras promenade, making it a great option to have a drink by the beach without entering crowded restaurants.
