What to See at Cofete Beach in Fuerteventura

Next to the beach car park is the Cofete Cemetery, considered one of the most unique cemeteries in the world. This site was built in the 19th century as an alternative to transporting the deceased by dromedary to the church in the municipality of Pájara, 50 kilometres away, for burial.
The cemetery is bordered by a wall 40 cm high, which prevents sand from entering the grounds. Inside, wooden crosses and stones mark the resting places of those buried there.
Cofete Village
Just one kilometre away from Cofete Beach in Fuerteventura, you can visit a group of 19th-century dwellings. The houses and huts of Cofete Village were built by the first inhabitants of the area, who made their living from fishing. In the village, there is a café where delicious typical island food is served.
To the east of Cofete Village, there is a bronze statue of Gustav Winter together with a black dog. This monument welcomes you to another place worth discovering: Villa Winter.
Winter House in Cofete, Fuerteventura
Villa Winter is located a little more than 1.5 km from Cofete Village. This mansion was built in the 1940s and belonged to the German engineer Gustav Winter, who was considered a spy by the British during the Second World War.
The house has two floors and is located 130 metres above sea level. It is an interesting stop during your visit to Cofete in Fuerteventura.
