TABLE OF CONTENTS

If you love heights and are not afraid of vertigo in the slightest, you should not miss the chance to discover the 6 best cliffs in Gran Canaria, from which you can enjoy extraordinary views and take home unforgettable memories.

The volcanic past of the Canary island has given rise to several of its tourist attractions, such as the emblematic rock formations and cliffs of Gran Canaria, which can reach more than 2,000 metres of elevation difference. Would you like to discover them?

At the Lopesan Group, we want you to enjoy unique experiences. That is why we present the most outstanding cliffs in Gran Canaria, so you can set out to admire the natural beauty of this island.

1. Acantilados del Mármol in Santa María de Guía

These cliffs are located between two coastal towns: Santa María de Guía and Gáldar. The Acantilados del Mármol in Gran Canaria reach 200 metres above sea level, offering a spectacular view of the coast.

To reach these cliffs, you must take a dirt road from the old northern road of Gran Canaria, GC-291, near Albercón de la Virgen. Nearby, you will find a natural viewpoint at Punta Gallegos, where the access to a trail that runs along the Acantilados del Mármol is located.

2. Tamadaba cliffs: a refuge for species

In the north of the island, you will find some of the highest cliffs in Gran Canaria and in Spain. The cliffs of Tamadaba Natural Park, in Agaete, exceed 1,000 metres in altitude. Impressive, isn’t it?

Their immense size is not made for those who are afraid of heights. But if you are not one of them, you will enjoy the spectacular force of the sea and the wind on the Canarian coast.

In addition to the Tamadaba cliff, this entire natural park is home to an extraordinary variety of fauna and native species of Gran Canaria, making it a perfect place to disconnect.

3. Bajas del Pedroso: a dreamlike sandy area

Northeast of the well-known neighbourhood of El Cardón, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, you will find a low-altitude cliff of extraordinary beauty. The cliff of Bajas del Pedroso is only 4 metres high and is located below the imposing Monumento del Atlante, which welcomes visitors arriving in the city.

At Bajas del Pedroso, you can admire the full splendour of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. To reach this point, take the GC-2 motorway towards Agaete, where you can park your vehicle in the designated area.

4. Roque Nublo: impressive altitude

Roque Nublo, located in the municipality of Tejeda, is known as one of the island’s most important symbols. And we cannot fail to mention the cliffs surrounding it, among the most impressive in Gran Canaria.

If you thought the 1,000 metres of the Tamadaba cliffs were already high, the perspective from Nublo will surprise you. Here, you will find yourself at more than 1,800 metres above sea level, overlooking the immense ocean. Would you dare to climb up?

Many refer to Roque Nublo as “the guardian of the island” because it allows you to admire the beauty and splendour of Gran Canaria as a whole. This natural monument was formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago.

5. Faneque in Agaete: opening onto the ocean

Another of Gran Canaria’s wonderful cliffs is Risco de Faneque, in Agaete. With its 1,008 metres overlooking the mighty Atlantic Ocean, the Faneque cliff is among the largest not only in Spain, but also in Europe.

When you visit Agaete, you can discover two of the most impressive cliffs on the Canary island: Tamadaba and Faneque. From both, you will enjoy wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean and its deep waters.

This cliff owes its name to Roque Faneque, as it forms part of the well-known massif where you can go hiking. If you enjoy this activity, Gran Canaria hides countless natural routes.

6. Mirador del Balcón

To reach this cliff, you will need to head to the west of the Canary island. Mirador del Balcón, in Andén Verde, within the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, is located about 400 metres above sea level. Here, you can observe part of the Canarian volcanic history and its geological remains.

What makes this natural landscape so striking is that you can see a peculiar arch-like shape with a 20 km stretch between Punta de La Aldea, resembling a “dragon’s tail”, the name by which it is also known.
